April 2025 – The Molly Dicker and Sylvanarth Competitions plus new group project

On Thursday 24th April we will hold our annual drawing competition for the Molly Dicker and Sylvanarth Trophies at the Holy Trinity Church Hall, West Street Fareham from 19:15. The subject of the competition this year is ‘Portrait of a Celebrity’. For the purposes of both competitions, drawing means ‘without adding water or other wetting agent/medium’.

The Molly Dicker Trophy

Molly Dicker was a past President of Fareham Art Group and a well known Hampshire Artist.  Molly instigated this competition to demonstrate drawing ability.  Molly passed away in 2000, but the trophy is awarded annually in the Molly Dicker Drawing Competition. Competition entries may be in any suitable drawing media for example pen, ink, pencils, charcoal, pastel etc.  Our guest judge is local artist Kevin Hayward

The Sylvanarth Trophy

The Sylvanarth Trophy was presented to Fareham Art Group in 2012 in memory of its founder members Sylvia and Arthur Slinn by their son Ray.   Ray asked that the trophy be awarded to “encourage new and less experienced artists” so we have linked it to our annual (March/April Molly Dicker) drawing competition.  To enable a wider group of members to participate in this competition the award will become the Fareham Art Group’s ‘President’s Pick’.  The President will choose the painting that they feel merits the award, and will explain the criteria for their decision.

The competition is being judged by Mark Davies our President and the trophy awarded to the ‘President’s Pick’.

2025 Group Project

As 2025 will be our 75th Anniversary Year our Group Painting Project will be themed ‘Fareham past and present’. Entries will form a display at Fareham Library together with other local venues and be displayed at our Annual Exhibition in October. Full details and canvases will be available to purchase on the night.
